AJI Yogyakarta with the support DnP (Development and Peace) held a workshop with the theme of Media and Gender. The event took place on campus Demangan UII, Yogyakarta. Acting as a speaker is Budi Wahyuni, women activists and activists PKBI and Masduki, head of communications Prodi UII is also a lot deepen gender issues. There are approximately 20 women in Yogyakarta journalist who follow this workshop, on Noveember 2009.

This workshop is motivated by the fact that women journalists still face discrimination in the media industry, not least in Yogyakarta. Selaian it, the workplace is also not friendly to women. Minimal research conducted before the workshop prove it. For example, a woman journalist salaries are still lower than male journalists. The bathroom is far from the newsroom journalists also makes women to be less comfortable.

In addition to providing input on issues of gender, this workshop is also trying to see further how the real conditions of women journalists in the media industry in Yogayakarta. It also tries to offer bagiamana actually make newsrooms friendly to women.

The results of this workshop was a recommendation that will be given to the leaders of the mass media in Yogyakarta. There is also the desire of participants to interact further discuss gender discourse in the world of journalism.
